Suzuki GSX-S1000 and GSX-S1000F power output revealed

Suzuki had showcased the new Suzuki GSX-S1000 and GSX-S1000F at the 2014 INTERMOT motorcycle show in Germany but hadn’t revealed the power output for the above two bikes. Power figures for both the motorcycles have been leaked on the internet and the new Suzuki GSX-S1000F and GSX-S1000’s motor churns out 146PS of peak power at 9,500rpm. Powering both the motorcycles is the same inline-four cylinder engine from the 2008 Suzuki GSX-R1000 but it has been detuned to better suit the streetbike dynamics of both the motorcycles.
With the introduction of two motorcycles, Suzuki fills out the void that has been long existent in their 1000cc line up since its Japanese rivals already had offerings in both the streetbike and sport-touring segment. The power output of 146PS makes the Suzuki GSX-S1000 the second most powerful litre-class Japanese streetbike behind the Yamaha FZ1. Both the motorcycles get loaded with a three-way selectable traction control system. It also gets KYB shocks that come with adjustable preload and rebound making it more fitting for street use. Braking duties are performed by Brembo monoblock callipers and ABS is standard

While success of both these motorcycles will depend a lot on how Suzuki prices, the fact that the Japanese motorcycle maker is on a model offensive is clear, not just in the international market but also in India mind you. With the GSX-R1000 already on sale in India, we can expect both these motorcycles to come to Indian shores in 2015 too.

BMW ActiveHybrid 7 launched at Rs 1.35 crore

The ActiveHybrid 7 gets top of the line luxury features such as keyless entry and ignition, front and rear parking sensors, four-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, a rear-view camera, navigation system and 10-speaker sound system with satellite radio and a USB/iPod integration system. Using the Driving Experience Control switch, the driver can choose ECO PRO, Comfort, Sport and Sport+ driving modes.

The 7-series ActiveHybrid gets part electric propulsion and will be powered by a inline 6-cylinder petrol engine with two turbochargers. It develops 324PS of power from the petrol engine and 54.4PS of electric power from the Lithium ion battery. With a combined output of 359PS and 500Nm of torque, the 7-series ActiveHybrid can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 5.7 seconds. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a ZF eight-speed Steptronic gearbox.

BMW says the ActiveHybrid is 14 per cent more fuel efficient than the 740Li. The electric motor gives an extra 210Nm of torque to the 7-series and can help reach an electric-only top speed of 60kmph and has a range of 4km on pure battery power. To keep load off the engine, a 120 volt lithium-ion battery pack powers the air conditioning system so it can run even when the car is turned off and does not consume any fuel.

The ActiveHybrid also gets brake energy regeneration and a hybrid start-stop system to save fuel. The ActiveHybrid will set the stage for the German carmaker's next eco-friendly product for India – the BMW i8 hybrid supercar. The all-new BMW ActiveHybrid 7 is the only hybrid luxury sedan in its segment and is available at BMW dealerships in Delhi NCR, Mumbai and Chennai as a CBU from today onwards at an ex-showroom price of Rs 1.35 crore.

Locally assembled Jaguar XJ Launched in Mumbai

Jaguar will now assemble its flagship sedan XJ at their facility in Pune

Jaguar has relaunched it's 3.0-litre version of its luxury sedan XJ at an extremely competitive price of Rs 92.1 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai, before octroi). Along with the XF sedan and the Land Rover Freelander, the XJ too will be produced at the facility in Pune.

Despite the price cut, the XJ will now get a lot more equipment than before including massage seats at the back, electric sun blinds, 10-inch rear screens, LED reading lights and a new business table. The Jaguar XJ will be made available in two variants - Premium Luxury and the top-of-the-line Portfolio. The 3-litre V6 oil burner produces 275PS of power and an impressive 600Nm of torque. The rear-wheel drive car is mated to a 8-speed automatic gearbox.

Aside from Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz too started assembling its luxury sedan the S-Class in India earlier this year. Needless to say the price of the S-Class too was slashed. With the XJ too coming at a seemingly affordable price point, it will be interesting to see these two cars battle it out in the luxury sedan market.
