The ActiveHybrid 7 gets top of the line luxury features such as keyless entry and ignition, front and rear parking sensors, four-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, a rear-view camera, navigation system and 10-speaker sound system with satellite radio and a USB/iPod integration system. Using the Driving Experience Control switch, the driver can choose ECO PRO, Comfort, Sport and Sport+ driving modes.
The 7-series ActiveHybrid gets part electric propulsion and will be powered by a inline 6-cylinder petrol engine with two turbochargers. It develops 324PS of power from the petrol engine and 54.4PS of electric power from the Lithium ion battery. With a combined output of 359PS and 500Nm of torque, the 7-series ActiveHybrid can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 5.7 seconds. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a ZF eight-speed Steptronic gearbox.
BMW says the ActiveHybrid is 14 per cent more fuel efficient than the 740Li. The electric motor gives an extra 210Nm of torque to the 7-series and can help reach an electric-only top speed of 60kmph and has a range of 4km on pure battery power. To keep load off the engine, a 120 volt lithium-ion battery pack powers the air conditioning system so it can run even when the car is turned off and does not consume any fuel.
The ActiveHybrid also gets brake energy regeneration and a hybrid start-stop system to save fuel. The ActiveHybrid will set the stage for the German carmaker's next eco-friendly product for India – the BMW i8 hybrid supercar. The all-new BMW ActiveHybrid 7 is the only hybrid luxury sedan in its segment and is available at BMW dealerships in Delhi NCR, Mumbai and Chennai as a CBU from today onwards at an ex-showroom price of Rs 1.35 crore.
